| Soil Information: MOKO SERIES - The Moko series consists of shallow and very shallow, well drained and somewhat excessively drained soils that formed in loamy colluvium or residuum from limestone or dolostone. They are on dissected uplands in the Ozarks of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri (MLRA 116). Near the type location, the mean annual precipitation is about 45 inches and the mean annual temperature is about 56 degrees F. Slopes range from 3 to 100 percent. USE AND VEGETATION: Most areas are in eastern redcedar and native grasses with sparse populations of post oak and elm.
GRAVOIS SERIES - The Gravois series consists of very deep, moderately well drained soils on uplands. These soils formed in a thin mantle of loess and pedisediment and the underlying loamy and clayey residuum from dolomite. Permeability is moderate in the Bt horizon and slow in the 2Btx horizon. Slopes range from 3 to 35 percent. Mean annual temperature is about 55 degrees F., and mean annual precipitation is about 40 inches. USE AND VEGETATION: Most areas of these soils are cleared and used for grass and legume pasture or hay crops. The remainder is in forest. Native vegetation was mixed hardwoods.
RUETER SERIES - The Rueter series consists of very deep, somewhat excessively drained soils that formed in colluvium and residuum from cherty limestone on steep side slopes and narrow ridgetops. Slopes range from 3 to 70 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 42 inches, and mean annual temperature is about 56 degrees F. USE AND VEGETATION: Most of the soil is in second growth timber similar to the original forest. Some areas are used for pasture. Native vegetation is oak/hickory forest.
GATEWOOD SERIES - The Gatewood series consists of moderately deep, moderately well drained soils of the uplands in MLRA 116. They formed in gravelly hillslope sediments and the underlying residuum from cherty limestone or dolomite and shale. Slope gradients range from 1 to 60 percent. Mean annual temperature is 57 degrees F, and mean annual precipitation is 44 inches. USE AND VEGETATION: Most of the Gatewood soils remain in timber consisting of second growth hardwoods and eastern red cedar. Some areas are in cool season pasture.
GUNLOCK SERIES - The Gunlock series consists of very deep, moderately well drained, slowly permeable soils formed in a thin mantle of loess and pedisediment over residuum weathered from interbedded sandstone and cherty dolomite on uplands and terraces. Slopes range from 1 to 35 percent. Mean annual temperature is about 56 degrees F, and mean annual precipitation is about 40 inches. USE AND VEGETATION: Most of the acreage is used for hay and pasture. Small grain crops are grown on some of the gentlest slopes. Oaks dominate the remaining acreage.
